Can't play negative roles, says Somya Seth

Mumbai: Actress Somya Seth, who has mostly played positive roles on screen, says she don't want to play negative characters as playing them is a “very difficult job” and she doesn't wish to hurt anybody's ever. “Playing a grey shade character is a very difficult job and I cannot do that. It’s not about playing a negative character; it’s just that I don’t want to hurt anybody ever,” Somya, who will be seen as Princess Kaurwaki in popular historical show “Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat” after it will take a leap of 10 years, told IANS. “Everything is okay but please don’t ask me to hurt anybody ever. I cannot have the heart to do it. I don’t have the heart to eat non-vegetarian food because it just makes me feel that, ‘No I cannot do that’. “But that doesn’t mean that I am not strong. I’m strong if need be but I don’t find the need, so I don’t do those things. But if the need be I’m the strongest person you’ll ever meet,” Somya said. This will be the first time that Somya, who has previously appeared in shows like “Navya... Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal” and “Yeh Hai Aashiqui”, will be seen in a historical show. Sharing her experience about working in the show, Somya said: “I have to wear heavy jewellery and my Hindi is supposed to be really clean and clear. But I have enjoyed the whole process so far, be it horse riding, sword fighting or my costume. “This is exactly what I wanted. I wanted to look strong onscreen and show me being something else. In my life I want to see how many other characters I can take and get myself into it. It’s a great challenge and I lovingly accept it. Is she similar to her character in real life too? “When I was playing other roles earlier, everybody was saying, ‘She is just like her character. She is so similar to her character’. But I feel every girl would have everything of any character. I’m sure any women can relate to Kaurwaki in so many different ways,” Somya said. “Every woman at some point or the other has fought for things - fought for her husband, father, brother or boyfriend. We might have done this in different eras but the war, fight, emotions, problems and feelings is as real and as similar to what we face today,” she added. Apart from her, the Colors show will also feature “Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev” fame actor Mohit Raina in the title role. “Working with Mohit has been a fun time. We have enjoyed a lot. I know little bit about him but the couple of days in which we have worked together, I think he is down to earth and sweet person. He is so passionate about his work and that motivates me,” Somya said.
