New Delhi: Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is basking in the success of his film ‘Leo’, was injured on Tuesday as he was attending a promotional event for the film at a movie hall in Palakkad.

Kanagaraj arrived at the movie hall and by then a massive crowd of well-wishers had already gathered to have a glimpse of the director.

He was in the state for the promotion of the film at Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kochi and had planned to return later in the day.

But his plans went awry after the fans turned delirious and made a mad rush to come close to the director to take selfies which created a stampede. Soon the police started chasing fans and in the melee, Kanagaraj suffered an injury to his leg.

It was with great difficulty the police managed to bring things under control.

Following the injury, Kanagaraj cancelled his plans to reach Thrissur and Kochi and returned to Chennai. He however has promised he will return to Kerala as part of promoting the Vijay starrer.

Lokesh took to X and shared a selfie he took at the theater in Palakkad wherein hundreds of fans can be seen cheering for the filmmaker. “Thank you Kerala for your love.. Overwhelmed, happy and grateful to see you all in Palakkad. Due to a small injury in the crowd, I couldn’t make it to the other two venues and the press meeting. I would certainly come back to meet you all in Kerala again soon. Till then continue enjoying #Leo with the same love,” he wrote.

‘Leo’ consists of an ensemble cast that includes Vijay, Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Santi Mayadevi, Mathew Thomas, Mansoor Ali Khan in pivotal roles.

‘Leo’ is the latest installment in Kanagaraj’s LCU or Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which began with ‘Kaithi’ (2019), continued with ‘Vikram’ in 2022, and retrospectively included the 1986 title ‘Vikram’.

Characters from ‘Kaithi’ and the 2022 ‘Vikram’ make appearances in ‘Leo’. This is the second time that Vijay, known to his fans as ‘Thalapathy’ (commander), has teamed up with Kanagaraj. They previously collaborated on ‘Master’.
