Bhavana Studios Delays 'Premalu 2'? Dileesh Pothan Confirms New Project With Director Girish AD
Dileesh Pothan confirms that Bhavana Studios’ next collaboration with director Girish AD will not be 'Premalu 2', despite earlier announcements. The rom-com sequel may face delays.

In a move that’s likely to surprise fans of Malayalam cinema’s blockbuster rom-com ‘Premalu’, producer-director Dileesh Pothan has confirmed that the eagerly awaited sequel won’t be hitting floors anytime soon. Though earlier plans hinted at a mid-2025 shoot for ‘Premalu 2’, Bhavana Studios' immediate focus is now on another film with director Girish AD.
Speaking during a promotional interview for his upcoming film ‘Ronth’ with Roshan Mathew, Dileesh revealed that the next project under Bhavana Studios, co-owned by Pothan, Fahadh Faasil, and Syam Pushkaran, is indeed with Girish—but it’s not what fans expected.
“Our Next Isn’t Premalu 2,” Says Dileesh
In a candid chat with The Cue, Dileesh clarified, “Our next immediate project won't be ‘Premalu 2’, it's another directorial venture of Girish AD.” This comes as a significant update, considering the earlier announcement that ‘Premalu 2’ would begin shooting by mid-June 2025 and be released later this year.
The sequel had promised to bring back director Girish AD along with his co-writer Kiran Josey and the original cast featuring Naslen, Mamitha Baiju, Sangeeth Prathap, and Akhila Bhargavan. However, Dileesh’s latest comments suggest that while the sequel is still in the pipeline, it may take longer to materialize than previously believed.
What’s Next for Girish and Dileesh?
While details about Girish AD’s untitled new project remain under wraps, fans of his storytelling can look forward to a fresh narrative coming soon under the Bhavana Studios banner. Meanwhile, Dileesh Pothan also confirmed he’s developing his fourth directorial project, following the acclaimed Fahadh Faasil-starrer ‘Joji’ from 2021. No further information about his upcoming direction has been revealed yet.
This development leaves the fate of ‘Premalu 2’ in limbo, but fans remain hopeful. After all, Bhavana Studios’ collaboration with Girish AD has previously resulted in box-office gold, and expectations are already building for what comes next.
