Shah Rukh Khan Reacts To Pathaan Controversy, Compares Himself, John, And Deepika To ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’

Shah Rukh Khan compared 'Pathaan' cast to the famous characters in Manmohan Desai's classic film 'Amar Akbar Anthony'.

New Delhi: In his first media appearance following 'Pathaan's phenomenal success, Shah Rukh Khan compared his two co-stars, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, and himself to the famous characters in Manmohan Desai's classic 1977 film 'Amar Akbar Anthony'. On Monday, the actor stated that their goal as entertainers is to promote "love and brotherhood". He also urged viewers not to take their alter identities too seriously.

The actor joined the 'Pathaan' director Siddharth Anand and his co-stars Deepika, and John Abraham to celebrate the success of the action movie.

“Sabka maksad ek hi hota hai. We should spread happiness, brotherhood, love, kindness, even when I’m playing a bad guy like in Darr. Even if I’m playing a Baazigar, even if John is being bad in a film. None of us are bad. We are all playing characters to make you happy. If we say things in the film, none of them are meant to hurt any sentiment or anybody. It is just entertainment,” the actor said during the event.

“We love each other, we joke with each other. We have fun with each other. Fun, entertainment should be left at that. Don’t take it more seriously. We all are one. All of us are loving each other and trying to make that love spread just to tell you in a very simple manner… this is Deepika Padukone, yeh Amar hain. Main Shah Rukh Khan hoon, main Akbar hoon. Yeh John hain, yeh Anthony hain. And this is what makes cinema,” he added.

"There are no differences that any of us have for anybody, any culture, any aspect of life. We love you, that's why we make films," SRK concluded.

On January 25, Pathaan was released in theatres, and since then, it has broken numerous domestic and international box office records. The team thanked the audience for attending the event and helping to make the movie a hit.

As per early estimates, the Hindi version of the movie will soon surpass the Rs 300 crore mark. On opening day, the film earned Rs 55 crore in India. Meanwhile, it has already minted over Rs 500 crore in the overseas box office.
