Ranveer Singh's Father-In-Law Prakash Padukone Cherishes Memories Of India's 1983 Cricket World Cup Victory

Deepika Padukone's father and Badminton legend Prakash Padukone spoke about India's historic triumph in the finals of 1983 Cricket World Cup.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who is busy promoting his upcoming film '83', shared a video of his father-in-law Prakash Padukone wherein he spoke about India's victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The Badminton legend cherished his memories of the World Cup finals between India and West Indies and said that he couldn't watch the match live as he was playing in Denmark. 

What Prakash Padukone Said About India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup Win? 

The legendary badminton player went down the memory lane and recalled how the victory in the finals of the World Cup changed the landscape of Indian cricket. “25th June, 1983, was a landmark day in the history of Indian sports. India won the world cup for the first time, most unexpectedly! We were in Denmark at that time. I was playing professional badminton. I couldn't see the match live. Trying to get the news either from the radio or BBC. When we heard that India had won the world cup, I think it was unbelievable,” he said.

Prakash added, “India had beaten the mighty West Indies in those days. That was a turning point for Indian cricket. From what was a sport, became a religion.” 

How Ranveer Singh Addressed His Father-In-Law

The 'Gully Boy' actor penned a sweet note for his 'dear father-in-law' while sharing the video on his Instagram handle. He wrote, "The Living Legend of Badminton, a World Champion himself & my dear father-in-law Prakash Padukone, cherishes the memories of the 1983 World Cup triumph."

Ranveer Singh promoted '83' along with Cricket legends including Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath and Sunil Gavaskar in the UAE. The 'Padmaavat' actor beamed with joy after seeing the trailer of the film projected onto Dubai's Burj Khalifa.

 "The champions on the tallest building of the world," the 'Simmba' star wrote while sharing the video from his recent promotional activity in Dubai.

When Is '83' Releasing?

The much-awaited sports drama, which is based on India's triumph in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, will hit the silver screens on December 24, 2021. The Kabir Khan directorial will star Ranveer Singh as former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev. Deepika Padukone, who is one of the co-producers, is playing the role of Singh's on-screen wife.
