'Padmavati' led Deepika to opt out of Anand L Rai's next

NEW DELHI: Deepika Padukone had no choice but to opt out of Anand L Rai's next, starring Shahrukh Khan, because of so much to and fro with 'Padmavati' dates. The leggy lass, who plays the role of Rani Padmini, in her upcoming movie, had committed her dates to the 'Padmavati' team. However, there has been multiple rescheduling of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus. Hence, Deepika had no other alternative but to let go of Anand L Rai's film owing to prior commitment. The actress has currently started shooting for her next schedule of 'Padmavati' in Mumbai. While Ranveer essays the role of Alauddin Khilji, Shahid will be seen as Raja Rawal Ratan Singh - King of Chittor. The story of the movie revolves around Khilji (Ranveer)'s obsession for the queen of Mewar-Padmini(Deepika). The film got mired in controversy for allegedly distorting historical facts in the name of creative liberty. A group of vigilantes vandalised the sets and assaulted Sanjay Leela Bhansali after they came to know that there is a romantic dream sequence between Khilji and Padmini. (With inputs from ANI)
