Farhan Akhtar Trolled After Mistakenly Wishing Indian Women's Hockey Team For Winning Bronze, Deletes Tweet
Social media users were not so pleased with Farhan Akhtar, who congratulated the Indian women's hockey team instead of the men's team. The 'Toofan' actor has now deleted his tweet.
Mumbai: The Indian men’s hockey team made the entire country proud by defeating Germany in a nail-biting semi-final match at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Manpreet Singh-led team clinched the bronze medal, ending India’s 41-year-long wait for an Olympic medal in hockey. Several Bollywood celebs including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut congratulated the winning team for securing victory in the high-stake match.
Farhan Akhtar also extended his warm wishes on social media; however, he mistakenly congratulated the Indian women’s hockey team instead of their male counterparts.
The filmmaker-actor gave a shout out to the women’s team and wrote, “Go girls. So proud of teamindia for showing exemplary fighting spirit and bringing in our 4th medal.. super stuff. #Tokyo2020 Hockey.”
Upon realizing his mistake, he deleted the tweet and posted another one. However, the screenshot of his now-deleted tweet went viral on social media. Check it out!
After deleting the tweet, Farhan shared a new one, which read: "So proud of #teamIndia for showing exemplary fighting spirit and bringing in our 4th medal .. super stuff. #Tokyo2020 #Hockey."
Meme makers had a field day as they shared rib-tickling memes on Twitter after Akhtar’s goof up. Several social media users trolled ‘The Sky Is Pink’ star after he shared a new post on the micro-blogging site.
On the professional front, Farhan was recently seen in ‘Toofan’, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 16. The film co-starring Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal received mixed reviews from the critics and audience.
Akhtar managed to steal the show with his power-packed performance as a goon-turned-boxer in ‘Toofan’. This was his second film in which he played a sportsperson. The ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ star had earlier played the role of late sprinter Milkha Singh in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. Both 'Toofan' and Milkha Singh's biopic were directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
