Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun Dhawan’s Film Struggles To Gain Momentum, Earns 36 Crore Worldwide

Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun Dhawan's latest film has wrapped up its first weekend, but the numbers are not impressive.

New Delhi: ‘Baby John’, the new film starring Varun Dhawan, has completed its first extended weekend, but the action drama is underwhelming as it fails to capitalise on its promising start. Despite hopes that ‘Baby John’ would do better following its December 25 release, it has only marginally outperformed its Day 4 collections, showing no signs of further growth.

The film has earned Rs 28.65 crore in India as of Day 5, with Rs 23.9 crore coming in as nett and Rs 28.7 crore as gross. The movie's troubling box office trend is highlighted by the fact that it has not managed to surpass the Rs 30 crore barrier, even with an extended first weekend.

According to industry watcher Sacnilk, the film's Sunday performance was somewhat better, with Rs 4.75 crore in receipts. The film's overall earnings have reached Rs 36.7 crore, with Rs 8 crore coming from international markets. Having said that, considering Baby John's lacklustre performance in India and its production costs of Rs 160 crore, it is very unlikely that the film would break even.

The film's total occupancy on Sunday was only 17.38%, with the evening shows drawing the largest crowds. There are 3,490 shows of the film in India, with 69 shows in Chennai having the highest occupancy rate at 39.75%. Next came Pune, which had 24.25% occupancy from 213 shows, and Mumbai, 23.75%, from 563 shows. The occupancy rate in Delhi NCR was the lowest, at 13.75% out of 921 shows.

In spite of the film's unimpressive run, ‘Baby John’ accomplished something significant: it became Varun Dhawan's highest opening day haul in the last five years. As a point of comparison, the opening day receipts of his earlier flicks ‘Bhediya’ (Rs 7.48 crore) and ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ (Rs 9.28 crore) were, respectively.

The fate of ‘Baby John’ hangs in the balance as the holiday box office race continues; the film's creators and production company stand to lose a lot of money if the film continues on its present path.

Produced by Atlee, 'Baby John' features Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff.
