Ajay Devgn’s 'Raid 2' Makes Strong Opening But Faces Decline On Day 2 At The Box Office

Ajay Devgn’s latest crime thriller 'Raid 2' hit theaters on May 1, 2025, delivering a promising opening but facing a noticeable dip on its second day.

New Delhi: The highly awaited sequel to Ajay Devgn's 2018 smash hit Raid, 'Raid 2', marks his return to the big screen after the underwhelming performance of 'Azaad' earlier this year. There were high hopes for the sequel, but since its premiere, 'Raid 2' has received mixed reviews, and its box office performance reflects this lukewarm reception.

'Raid 2' Box Office Collection Day 2

With an impressive opening day total of Rs 19.25 crore, 'Raid 2' got off to a strong start, surpassing the previous film's opening by almost 9 crore rupees. On the other hand, the crime thriller's earnings descended on day two, falling to barely Rs 11.75 crore, a decrease of about 38.96%. This raised the film's total domestic collection on day two to Rs 31 crore, according to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk.

This film's financial performance is reminiscent of Ajay Devgn's 2024 multi-starrer 'Singham Again', which almost broke even after opening to a reported budget of 375 million rupees but dropped to 42.5 crore on day 2 and 35.75 crore on day 3, eventually grossing 372.4 crore rupees worldwide.

'Raid 2' had a moderate crowd occupancy percentage of 19.23% on Friday, with 4711 shows opening for the film nationally. By Saturday, the movie had lost around 150 shows, and on the second day, it had fallen to 4843. Chennai did well, with an outstanding 48% occupancy rate, while Surat had the lowest attendance, with just 13% audience involvement, according to the statistics given by Sacnilk.

Another May 1 release that is competing with 'Raid 2' at the box office was Sanjay Dutt's horror comedy 'The Bhootnii', although it was far less successful than 'Raid 2'.

'Raid 2' Plot

'Raid 2' continues the story of Amay Patnaik, the honest and daring IRS officer played by Ajay Devgn. This time, he faces off against a corrupt politician played by Riteish Deshmukh. Vaani Kapoor joins the cast, replacing Ileana D'Cruz as Amay’s wife.
