Oppenheimer Premeires In Japan Eight Months After Global Release; Christopher Nolan Film Screened With Trigger Warning

Over eight months after its global release, Oppenheimer made its Japan premiere.

New Delhi: Oppenheimer finally released in the country where two towns were destroyed 79 years ago by nuclear weapons created by the American scientist, who was the subject of the Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer. Understandably, the  Japanese moviegoers' responses were conflicted and intensely sentimental, several publications reported.

Oppenheimer Japan Release

Over eight months after its global release, the film made its Japan premiere.

The movie's original release in Japan was postponed since its global premiere in July of last year fell just a few weeks before the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, which occurred on August 6 and August 9, respectively, during the closing stages of World War II.

A few images from Tokyo venues, displaying the notice boards alerting patrons about the movie's inclusion of nuclear test imagery that might reflect the devastation caused by bombs, were circulated on social media.

While thousands more people were killed in the days that followed, largely civilians, ‘Oppenheimer’ did not explicitly describe what transpired on the ground when the bombs were detonated on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instantaneously converting about 100,000 people into ashes.

Oppenheimer box office

With a global box office collection of almost $950 million, Christopher Nolan's film won seven Oscars, including best picture.

‘Oppenheimer’ follows the story of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer as he and a team of scientists spend years creating the atomic bomb as part of the top-secret Manhattan Project.

'Oppenheimer' also brought Nolan his first Best Director Oscar, despite being nominated earlier for 'Dunkirk'. The film also brought Cilian Murphy, his Best Actor Oscar for hir titular role performance. Robert Downey Jr. also won Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 'Oppenheimer'.

The film is one of the most well-reviewed and appreciated films from last year.
