Zeenat Aman Reveals Her Condition 'Ptosis', Says 'It Made Me The Subject Of Unwanted Attention'
Zeenat Aman has been candid about living with Ptosis for approximately 40 years in a recent Instagram post.
New Delhi: After joining Instagram in February, veteran actress Zeenat Aman makes sure to keep her fans and followers in the loop by giving them insight into her daily life. On Tuesday, the actress took to Instagram and spoke out about her struggle with ptosis, or droopy eyelids. Her 40-year-long battle with a medical problem was finally resolved with surgery, as she disclosed in her long post.
Zeenat Aman acknowledged the fact that she had missed out on opportunities due to her ptosis condition. She wrote, "There has been an elephant in the room with me for the past 40 years. It is time to show this elephant the door. I have a condition know as ptosis - the result of an injury I suffered many decades ago that damaged the muscles around my right eye. Over the years, it caused my eyelid to droop further and further. And a few years ago it became so acute that it began to obstruct my vision."
Zeenat Aman continued by describing how she had to get used to the "dramatic change" in her look and how it attracted unwelcome attention. She felt limited by her ptosis because of the importance of physical appearance in the entertainment industry.

The actress wrote, “I know for a fact that this ptosis narrowed my opportunities and made me the subject of unwanted attention. But despite the gossip, the comments, and the questions, I never felt diminished by it. It helped of course that there were always a few stalwarts that stood by me and chose to work with me still.”
She concluded the post by saying her recovery process has been gradual.
"Droopy eyelid," or ptosis, is a medical term referring to the abnormal sagging of the upper eyelid.
