‘Couldn’t Cater To Egos...': Sushmita Sen On Taking A Break From Films For 8 Years
In a recent interview, Sushmita Sen explained why it took her eight years to return to acting.
New Delhi: Sushmita Sen has been receiving rave reviews for her role as transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the ‘Taali’ trailer. The actress has recently spoken out about her comeback to Bollywood after an eight-year absence. With the online series 'Aarya,' Sushmita returned to the film business after an almost eight-year absence, and the series was so successful that she received an Emmy nomination. Sushmita explained why it took her eight years to return to acting.
Sushmita had a starring role in the Bengali drama film ‘Nirbaak’, released in 2015. After an eight-year absence from Bollywood, Sushmita Sen returned with a bang, leaving an indelible mark with the series ‘Aarya’.
The actress recently spoke to the Indian Express about how 'Aarya' became the film for which she had been waiting for so long. Sushmita also reflected on the root cause of her absence, bringing up the difficulty of juggling parenthood and a job, which left her feeling uninspired and unmotivated.
Sushmita shared, "I did feel that in the 90s. You need to understand that it was the time when it was at its peak. As actresses, you do one item song or one thing and wow, you have arrived. It’s about who is doing your costumes and how many breakdown scenes you have. That’s how your math used to be. Hats off to the actors who have been able to do that. I grew tired very quickly because I wasn’t growing. Also, I have no way of catering to egos. I have no problem being like this student of arts, cinema and life but it’s a big problem catering to egos. I can’t do that. So it was not a good idea for me either because I didn’t quite fit in."
Sen has adopted two kids, both of whom she adores. She welcomed Renee, her first daughter, into the family in 2000, and Alisah, her second, in 2010.
