After Diljit Dosanjh, 'Tauba Tauba' Singer Karan Aujla Faces Legal Complaint Ahead Of India Tour Over Lyrics

A complaint has been filed against Karan Aujla for promoting harmful content, including the glorification of alcohol, drugs and violence.

New Delhi: Known for his popular songs like ‘Tauba Tauba’ and ‘Softly’, Punjabi singer Karan Aujla is preparing for his first India tour, It Was All A Dream, which will begin in Chandigarh on December 7, 2024. However, a professor from Chandigarh filed a legal complaint against Aujla, entangling him in controversy ahead of the much-anticipated tour.

According to Professor Panditrao Dharnevar, Karan Aujla's song glorifies violence, narcotics, and alcohol, among other negative themes in his songs. He has specifically pointed out several tracks, including ‘Chitta Kurta’, ‘Adhia’, ‘Few Days’, ‘Alcohol 2’, ‘Gangsta’, and ‘Bandook’.

ABP reports that Dharnevar has threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against Chandigarh's Director General of Police (DGP) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) if Aujla continues to sing these songs Chitta during his live shows.

Diljit Dosanjh Responds to Criticism Over Alcohol-Themed Songs

The legal battle involving Karan Aujla coincides with other Punjabi musicians being scrutinised for the substance of their songs. Worldwide sensation Diljit Dosanjh recently got a legal notice from the Telangana government before his performance in Hyderabad.

In response to the notice accusing Dosanjh of promoting songs with alcohol content, the singer made fun of Bollywood celebrities who support alcohol-related products. In response, the singer said, "Jitni bhi states hai agar vo saari apne ko dry states ghoshit kar deti hai. Agle hi din Diljit Dosanjh sharaab pe gaana nahi gaayega..mai pran karta hu. (If all the states declare themselves as dry states, the very next day Diljit Dosanjh will not sing a song about alcohol. I vow to do this)".
