After AR Rahman, His Bassist Mohini Dey Announces Separation From Husband: 'Would Appreciate No Judgements'

Just hours after Rahman’s announcement, bassist Mohini Dey, who has performed with Rahman in numerous international shows, shared that she and her husband, composer Mark Hartsuch, were also separating. The couple, who had been married for several years, posted a joint message on Instagram, confirming that they had reached a mutual decision to end their marriage. 

“With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated,” Mohini wrote. “First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us. While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed.” The couple also reassured their fans that they would continue their musical collaboration through projects such as MaMoGi and the Mohini Dey groups.

“We have always prided ourselves on working well together and that will not be stopping any time soon,” she added. 

Mohini, a renowned bass player from Kolkata, is known for her work with the ensemble Gaan Bangla's Wind of Change and her debut album, released in August 2023. She has collaborated with Rahman in more than 40 shows across the globe.

She also asked for privacy and understanding from her followers, stressing the importance of respect and positivity during this time. “We would appreciate no judgments,” she concluded, thanking everyone for their continued support.

AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, announced that after 29 years of marriage, they had decided to part ways. In a statement released through their representatives, the couple explained that the decision came after enduring years of emotional strain. Rahman wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again.” Rahman thanked his friends and fans for their understanding and respect for their privacy as they navigated this difficult phase.
