Vellore: I-T raids at properties owned by DMK treasurer Duraimurugan’s son Kadhir Anand

The raids happened after the election commission had gotten a tip-off that there was movement of money at the residence.

Tamil Nadu: The Incomes Tax department on Saturday conducted raids at school and college owned by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Duraimurugan's son and Vellore constituency DMK candidate Kadhir Anand. The raids are also being conducted at a farmhouse of Duraimurugan at Katpadi in Vellore. The raids are being conducted only days ahead of polling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state created buzz as the legal team of Murugan made a fuss when the officials reached the treasurer’s place, saying they did not have the proper papers for a search. The raids happened after the election commission had gotten a tip-off that there was movement of money at the residence. Meanwhile, Income Tax officials continued their searches in parts of KarnatakaFriday, even as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy claimed that not even Rs ten unaccounted money was found in the raids. In a pre-dawn swoop Thursday, I-T sleuths had carried out coordinated raids at many locations across Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan and Shivamogga. "It has not concluded yet," an I-T official said without divulging any detail. Taking to the streets, Kumaraswamy had on Thursday staged a protest in front of the I-T department here in the first such protest by the State chief minister in recent memory. The crackdown came within a day after Kumaraswamy claimed Wednesday night that the I-T raids had been planned from 5 am on Thursday.
