UP Assembly Election 2022: Supreme Court lawyer Seema Kushwaha, who fought for the victim in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape case in Delhi, joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Thursday.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, she has studied law from the Delhi University.
Kushwaha, who was a trainee when the tragic incident took place with Nirbhaya, decided to fight the case without any fees on knowing about it.
This was the first case of Kushwaha’s career and it was her courage and spirit that she won the battle in court and ensured the conviction of the accused in the case.

She not only argued in favour of Nirbhaya in court but also stood by her parents during their worst phase in life.
Kushwaha’s story is also very interesting as she wanted to become an IAS officer earlier and not a lawyer.
She had also prepared for the competitive Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, but destiny had other plans for her as she later became a lawyer.
The BSP had fielded candidates in 53 of the 58 seats in the first phase.
