The schedule for the Tripura Assembly Election has been announced. Check details here.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced the poll schedule for the election to the 60-member Tripura Assembly. The North Eastern state would go to polls on February 16 while the result will be counted on March 2, announced Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in a press conference held here. The term of the assembly will end on March 22, 2023.

As per the poll schedule, the gazette notification will be issued on January 21 and the last date for filing nominations would be January 30. The date for scrutiny of nominations is set for January 31 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be February 2.

The polling will take place on February 16 and the votes will be counted on March 2 while the entire poll process will be wrapped up by March 4.

The four-cornered fight is expected between BJP, Congress, Left, and Trinamool Congress in Tripura where the BJP has changed the CM face to beat anti-incumbency. In 2018, the saffron party won 35 seats and unseated the 20-year incumbent CM, Manik Sarkar of CPI(M).

20 out of 60 seats were dominated by tribals in the last assembly elections held in the state. In the 2018 Tripura legislative assembly election, BJP won 33 seats, the IPFT won 4 seats, the CPI(M) won 15 seats, and the Congress won 1 seat.

Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, in a press briefing today said that the Election Commission visited three states from January 11 to January 15 and held detailed review meetings.

"We also met political parties and have responded to almost all state-specific issues raised by them and measures to be put in place as per contextual and felt requirements of each state," Kumar said.
