Telangana Elections: Know Syed Shahezadi, BJP's candidate against Akbaruddin Owaisi
BJP has fielded Syed Shahezadi, a young Muslim woman, as its candidate from Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad, to take on AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the December 7 state assembly election.
New Delhi: In order to take on the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the upcoming Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janta Party has fielded Syed Shahezadi a Muslim woman candidate.
This will be Shahezadi’s first experience in electoral politics. With her experience of students’ politics Shahezadi will face Akbaruddin Owaisi, the AIMIM’s floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. She will be contesting from the Chandrayangutta constituency which is a stronghold of the AIMIM. Shahezadi, who hails from Adilabad in Telangana, has been a leader of ABVP, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. She is a political science post graduate from Osmania University .
Shahezadi will be contesting Owaisi on the issue of development and employment. She has alleged that there has been no improvement in the condition of the common people in Chandrayangutta and other parts of the old city of Hyderabad even though AIMIM has been in power for the last two decades.
Speaking to news agency, PTI Shahezadi questioned the work done by Owaisi. She asked what he did for common people or what changes have come in their daily lives. “How many have become engineers and doctors”, she asked.
She dismissed all the allegations against BJP of being a communal party. Instead, she hailed BJP for supporting Muslims and said that it is the BJP which made the late APJ Abdul Kalam President of India and has given top positions to leaders like Sikandar Bhakt, Najma Heptulla and M J Akbar.
She alleged that a communal atmosphere prevailed in the old city of Hyderabad, AIMIM's stronghold, and there has been no change in the lives of common people, including ordinary Muslims, with AIMIM at the helm.
Owaisi has been elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. Dismissing allegations that BJP is a communal party, she said such a mindset has been established that the organisation was opposed to Muslims.
It is the BJP which made the late A P J Abdul Kalam President of India and BJP's Muslim leaders like Sikandar Bhakt, Najma Heptulla and M J Akbar held important positions, she said.
She also hailed the Modi government's decision on triple talaq issue.
