Telangana Elections 2018: Voter arrested for taking selfie inside polling booth in Hyderabad

The Election Commission has cautioned the voters, especially the first time voters against taking selfies, photos or videos inside the polling booths. Voters are allowed to click selfies with their inked finger after coming out of the booths.

Hyderabad: A youth found himself arrested on Friday for taking a selfie while casting his vote for Telangana assembly elections. ShivShankar’s misdemanor was spotted by a polling official in Rajendranagar constituency in Greater Hyderabad. Officials said the youth was arrested under Representation of People's Act for violating secrecy of voting, reported news agency IANS. The use of mobile phones inside the polling booths is banned to ensure the secrecy of voting process should not be violated. Shankar was held for paying no heed to election authorities who repeatedly asked voters not to carry mobile phones inside the polling centres.
