SKM Chief Prem Singh Tamang To Take Oath As Sikkim CM Today

In the Sikkim assembly and parliamentary polls, the SKM secured a landslide victory, winning 31 of the 32 seats.

Sikkim Assembly Elections: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) chief Prem Singh Tamang is set to take the oath as Chief Minister of Sikkim on Monday. Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony was to take place on Sunday, June 9, but was deferred by a day.

The ceremony is set to be held at 4 PM tomorrow at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers. The SKM chief, Tamang, will take the oath for the second term.

The decision to defer the swearing-in ceremony to June 10 was taken during the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) legislature party meeting, held on Friday last week at the chief minister's official residence, Mintokgang, as Tamang was scheduled to visit Delhi on Sunday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for the third time, news agency PTI reported, citing SKM leaders.

During the legislature party meeting, the newly elected SKM MLAs unanimously adopted a resolution to extend the party's support to Prime Minister Modi. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Gangtok in view of the event.

In the recently concluded Sikkim assembly and parliamentary polls, the ruling SKM secured a landslide victory, winning 31 of the 32 seats, while its candidate Indra Hang Subba retained the lone Lok Sabha constituency with a thumping margin.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Narendra Modi took the oath of office as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Droupadi Murmu administered him the oath of office. Several MPs from within the NDA, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal (United) (JDU), and other allies also took oath as the cabinet ministers.
