Sikkim Assembly Result 2024: SKM Records Thumping Victory With 31 Seats, CM Tamang Wins Rhenock
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) emerged victorious in the Sikkim Assembly elections 2024, bagging 20 seats so far, while the Sikkim Democratic Front bagged mere one seat from Shyari.
Sikkim Assembly Result 2024: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha registered a thumping victory in the Sikkim Assembly polls, securing 31 seats in the northeastern state. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), on the other hand, managed to bag mere one seat.
The results were declared after the counting of votes for the 32 Assembly seats in the northeastern state began today at 6 AM amid tight security arrangements.
The other parties that were contesting polls from Sikkim include the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. The saffron party and Congress recorded a total voter percentage of 5.18 percent and 0.32 percent respectively till now.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and former CM Pawan Kumar Chamling contested the polls from two assembly constituencies. While Tamang contested from Rhenock and Soreng Chakung, Chamling contested from the Namcheybung and Poklok Kamrang seats.
Sikkim CM Tamag won from Rhenock assembly seat, defeating SDF's Som Nath Poudyal by 7044 seats.
The prominent candidates among the 146 nominees include Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, hex-Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, is spouse Krishna Kumari Rai, SDF leader and former Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhatia, state BJP president DR Thapa, senior minister Lunga Nima Lepcha, and Speaker Arun Upreti.
On April 19, voting was conducted in Sikkim and an estimated 80 per cent of the 4.64 lakh voters cast ballots. Additionally, an additional four percent votes were cast through post by government officials and employees, according to the CEO Sikkim.
SDF vice-president and footballer Bhaichung Bhutia was in fray from the Barfung assembly seat, the result for which is yet to be announced.
DR Thapa, the state unit BJP president, is also seeking a re-election from Upper Burtuk.
Chief Minister Tamang's wife Krishna Kumari Rai is in fray from the Namchi Singhithang seat, while Speaker Arun Upreti is in fray from the Arithang constituency.
