Shimla Municipal Corporation Election Result: Congress Secures Big Victory, Wins 24 Of 34 Wards
The Congress party has emerged victorious in the recently held Shimla Municipal Corporation election.
The Congress party has emerged victorious in the recently held Shimla Municipal Corporation elections. Of the total 34 wards, Congress has won 24 seats while BJP has managed to secure victory on nine seats. The Communist Party Of India (Marxist) has won just one seat, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to open its account.
Speaking on the emphatic victory of his party, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "I would like to thank all the people in Shimla, known as Mini Himachal. We have registered a historic victory in the Municipal Corporation election for the first time in 10 years...People have shown their trust in us and we have to serve them."

After this victory the Congress will have its mayor and deputy mayor in the House.

A little over 90,000 voters exercised their franchise to elect 102 candidates from 34 wards in the Shimla Municipal Corporation elections held on Tuesday, May 2.
According to State Election Commission data, 93,920 people had registered to vote in the elections. At 153 polling stations, there were 49,759 male and 44,161 female voters. Vikas Nagar ward had the most voters (4,161), while Malyana had the fewest (1,166).
Half of the 34 wards in the civic council election were designated for women. Six wards were set aside for Scheduled Castes, three of which were for women. The remaining 14 wards were open to anyone.
The Congress had nominated 18 women candidates, while 23 were nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
