BRS Files EC Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi, Says His 'Baseless References' To Tapping Case Violated Poll Code

The BRS called to initiate action against Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress for violation of Model Code of Conduct

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly violating election regulations during a campaign visit to Telangana. According to the complaint, Rahul Gandhi in Thukkuguda public meeting on March 6 allegedly made "baseless references" to the telephone tapping case without presenting any evidence. Citing this, the BRS called to initiate action against Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress for violation of Model Code of Conduct.

In the letter submitted to the Central Election Commission, the party conveyed its apprehension regarding Rahul Gandhi's statements linking KCR to telephone tapping and accusing KCR of manipulating the police and intelligence agencies during the previous state government's tenure. The BRS urged the Central Election Commission to promptly address Rahul Gandhi's "baseless allegations" and supplemented their complaint with videos of Rahul Gandhi's remarks as evidence.

The complaint read, "It is submitted that, as part of the said speech, he passed derogatory comments on Shri K Chandrashekar Rao Garu stating that he is involved in phone tapping case and that he has misused the State's police and intelligence authorities when he was the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, which is an illegal and malafide on the part of Shri Rahul Gandhi ji."

Further, BRS claimed that making such unverified "unsubstantiated allegations" against K Chandrashekar Rao when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was in force "was a clear violation of MCC".

The party clarified that its leader, KCR, has no involvement in the phone-tapping case and emphasised that it was unlawful for Rahul Gandhi to comment on an ongoing investigation. The BRS accused Rahul Gandhi of making these remarks with malicious intent, aiming to benefit his party and potentially influence voters.
