New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday released its list of 20 candidates for the Nagaland Assembly election. The party's state president, Temjen Imna Along, has been fielded from the Alongtaki Legislative Assembly constituency.

Elaborating on the seat-sharing formula, Temjen Imna Along said: "In the Central Committee Meeting held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and JP Nadda, it has been decided that 2023 Nagaland assembly elections will be fought in BJP and NDPP alliance with seat-sharing formula in the ratio of 40:20."

"We will contest on 20 out of 60 seats in Nagaland. The rest of the seats have been given to our alliance partner NDPP. We'll contest all 60 seats in Meghalaya," BJP leader Nalin Kohli said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"We believe in Modi ji's work, focus on development and peace. These are the critical factors that drive Nagaland's voters," he emphasised.

BJP leader Rituraj Sinha lauded the Union government's work in the northeast saying, "Under Home Minister Amit Shah, in several parts of the northeast, almost 85% of AFSPA has been removed which has brought great relief to the northeast".

"More than development, under the leadership of PM Modi, the northeast has witnessed an era of peace. Several peace accords have been signed which were pending for decades. He has established that the northeast is an integral part of India," he added.
