WATCH | Mulayam Singh Forgets Son's Name In First Election Rally, Yogi Takes A Swipe

82-year-old politician forgot the name of Karhal's SP candidate and asked people to lead to victory ‘whoever was the candidate'.

New Delhi: A day ahead of Phase 3 polling in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav visited Karhal constituency to campaign for his son and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday.

Making his first appearance at an election rally, the veteran politician 'forgot' his son's name while seeking votes during his address.

In his speech, Mulayam assured people that Samajwadi Party will fulfil the aspirations of citizens and said that people want that the problems of poverty and unemployment to be resolved, and his party’s policies are very clear on these issues.

As per the video, Mulayam was about to conclude his speech when he was reminded by MP Dharmendra Yadav to ask for votes.

In the hustle, the 82-year-old politician forgot the name of Karhal's SP candidate and asked people to lead to victory ‘whoever was the candidate'. However, after an MP's prompt, Mulayam said Akhilesh should win with a huge margin.

Hours after, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath poked fun at the incident and said that Netaji is a smart politician and he understands that people of Karhal have made their decision of making SP Singh Baghel their leader in the upcoming Assembly polls.

"The other person kept telling him to 'take the name', he said who is fighting with SP candidature here, I don’t know. It is very unfortunate that a father does not know his son's name," Adityanath said in a separate rally.

In his address, Mulayam Singh Yadav appealed to the people to ensure the victory of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

"The eyes of other countries of the world, including the United States, are on the Samajwadi Party in these elections and now the people of India will decide. But one thing is clear that your hopes will be fulfilled by the Samajwadi Party," Mulayam Singh said.

"It is the policy of the Samajwadi Party that our farmers should be given priority, arrangement of fertilizers and seeds should be made and they be provided the means of irrigation which will increase the yield," he said.

The polling for the third phase will be held on February 20 in Karhal where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pitted Union minister SP Singh Baghel against Akhilesh Yadav.
