Nongthombam Biren Singh | BJP

Biren Singh is the current CM of Manipur who won against Congress’ three-time CM Okram Ibobi Singh in 2017. Singh began his political career in 2002 and joined Congress in 2003. Though he quit Congress in 2016 to join BJP.

The former footballer and journalist contested the elections from the Heingang constituency against Congress’ Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh.

Okram Ibobi Singh | Congress

The former CM of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh served the state from 2002 to 2017. Under his leadership, Congress won with a clear majority for three terms straight.

He contested from the Thoubal constituency in this year’s election against Irom Chaoba Singh from JDU, Konsam Michael Singh from SHS, Leitanthem Basanta Singh from BJP.

Thounaojam Brinda | JDU

Brinda is a first-time contender from Janata Dal (United) from the Yaiskul constituency in Imphal east. She is a police officer turned politician who joined JDU earlier this year.

Brinda came to the limelight after a high-profile international drug case in 2018 and was conferred with a Gallantry award for the same.

However, she returned the award two years later and accused N Biren Singh of defending the prime accused in 2020.
