I.N.D.I.A Bloc Sweeps Tamil Nadu But Vote Share Of Major Parties Records Slight Dip

AIADMK and BJP, who contested in separate alliances for the first time after severing ties, recorded an increase in their vote share.

Despite the I.N.D.I.A bloc's comprehensive victory in Tamil Nadu during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, key constituents DMK and Congress recorded a slight decline in their vote share compared to their performance in the 2019 elections. In the 2024 polls, DMK secured 22 seats, Congress 9, VCK 2, CPI 2, CPI(M) 2, and MDMK 1 seat.

The I.N.D.I.A bloc also secured 1 seat in Puducherry thus winning 40 out of 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Major I.N.D.I.A Bloc Parties Record Lesser Voteshare

In the 2024 elections, DMK achieved a vote share of 26.93%, a decrease from the 33.52% it secured in 2019. Congress also saw a decline, securing 10.67% of the vote share in 2024, compared to 12.61% in the previous election.

Conversely, the AIADMK experienced a slight increase in vote share, rising to 20.46% in 2024 from 19.39% in 2019. Despite this increase, AIADMK faced a complete defeat in 2024, in contrast to its 2019 performance where it won the lone Theni seat.

The BJP saw a significant rise in its independent vote share, securing 11.24% in 2024. This is a notable increase from the 3.66% vote share it received in 2019 when it was in alliance with AIADMK and PMK.

VCK To Become Recognised Party In TN?

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which is part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc in Tamil Nadu, is on the verge of realising its long-held ambition of becoming a recognised state party having secured victories in two constituencies. The VCK secured Chidambaram and Villupuram seats under its 'pot' symbol in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The party if it becomes a recognised party then it will join DMK, AIADMK, PMK, and DMDK as the fifth recognized political party in Tamil Nadu.

In Villupuram, Ravikumar secured a win with 4,77,033 votes. VCK chief Thirumavalavan who was seeking reelection in Chidambaram constituency won the seat with 5,05,084 votes by a margin of 1,03,554 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.
