Haryana Exit Polls Results: Did Congress Manage To Cash In On Anti-Incumbency Against BJP?
Haryana Exit Polls: Going into the polls, the Congress was confident of returning to power after a decade. Was its confidence unfounded, or did it hit gold with its strategic manoeuvres. Check here.
Haryana Exit Polls: The Haryana Congress is pretty confident of its performance in the Haryana Assembly elections and the exit poll results point to a smooth sailing ahead for the party to form the government. Just like the BJP, the Congress was hit by factionalism as the camps of Sirsa MP Kumari Selja and former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda seemed to be at loggerheads over ticket distribution. However, it seems to have overcome that with its sheer organisational strength as per the exit polls.
On the other hand, the anti-incumbency against the BJP seemed to work in favour of the Congress. With the BJP, concentrating on the General category votes after break-up with JJP, the biggest challenge for the Congress was perhaps the possible division of Jat votes between JJP and Abhay Chautala's INLD. It seems to have cracked the Jat vote formula too.
The Congress's manifesto promises, which were similar to those of the BJP, also seemed to have helped owing to its promises of monthly allowances to women and employment promises for the youth.

The Congress's move to consolidate Jat, Dalit, and Muslim votes is also likely to have boosted its chances. The Congress's campaign seemed to slow down towards the fag end. But this seemed to have no effect on the winning aspirations of the party. The Congress was also banking heavily on its Julana candidate Olympian Vinesh Phogat to cash in on the anti-BJP sentiments among the wrestling community.
