Gujarat Election: PM Modi Did A Roadshow Before Casting Vote, EC 'Willingly Under Pressure', Alleges Congress

Congress also alleged that its Dalit MLA Kanti Kharadi was assaulted by BJP workers and that the Election Commission did not respond to MLA’s request for protection prior to the assault.

New Delhi: Amid second phase of polling for Gujarat Assembly elections, Congress has alleged that its Prime Minister Narendra Modi did a “roadshow” before casting his vote. “During the polling day, PM Modi did a roadshow of two & half hours while he went to cast his vote. Will appeal to EC against it, seems like Election Commission is willingly under pressure,” said Congress leader Pawan Khera during a press conference, quoted by the news agency.

The Congress leader also alleged that its Dalit MLA from Danta, Kanti Kharadi was assaulted by Bharatiya Janata Party workers and that the Election Commission did not respond to MLA’s request for protection prior to the assault.

“Yesterday our tribal leader and MLA from Danta, Kanti Kharadi wrote to EC seeking protection, but EC didn't respond and later he was attacked by 24 BJP goons,” said Congress leader Pawan Khera today, quoted by the news agency.

Khera also alleged that the saffron party distributed liquor and the EC did not take action on that too.

“BJP also distributed liquor in Gujarat even though liquor is banned there, EC took no action on that either,” he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee also lashed out at PM Modi saying, “Roadshow is not permitted on the day of voting but Prime Minister Modi and his party are VVIPs, they can do anything and they will be excused.”

Hours before the polling commenced on Monday, Congress sitting MLA Kanti Kharadi from Scheduled Tribes reserved Danta seat in Banaskantha district in North Gujarat claimed that he was assaulted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ladhu Parghi, as per ANI report.
