Goa Election 2022: BJP Set To Form Govt For Third Consecutive Time, Claims Support Of MGP

Goa Elections 2022 Results: The BJP has won 20 seats with 33.3 per cent vote share

Goa Elections 2022 Results: The incumbent BJP is set to form the government in Goa after it emerged as the single largest party, winning 20 of the 40 seats in the state's 40-member assembly.

The BJP has won 20 seats with 33.3 per cent vote share, the Congress 11 seats with 23.50 per cent vote share, Goa Forward Party won one seat with 1.84 per cent votes, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) won two seats with 7.60 per cent vote share and the independents have won three seats.

Speaking at a press conference, Goa BJP chief Sadanand Tanavade said that the party had received letters of support from the MGP and three Independents. Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis underlined that the party would form the next Goa government.

Fadnavis, the BJP's election in-charge for Goa, praised the people of the state for their faith in the party and credited the party's election victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant gave credit for the victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We will go for government formation as per the party's decision," he said.

On February 14, the state held a single-phase election.

With 6.77 per cent of the vote, AAP also won two seats. Interestingly, despite receiving 5.21 per cent of the vote, the Trinamool Congress did not win a single seat.

It is worth noting that NOTA received 1.12 per cent of the vote.

Vishwajit Rane, a BJP politician, claimed on Thursday that the people of Goa had rejected "power-hungry outsiders."

"This is a win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party's president J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP officials, including our state leaders," Rane told reporters.

He went on to say that the win was achievable because the BJP worked as a team. Without identifying the Aam Aadmi Party or the Trinamool Congress, Rane stated that "power-hungry" foreigners attempted to deceive Goans, but the voters rejected them.
