Election Results 2019: In South, BJP sweeps Karnataka, while Congress takes lead in Kerala

In Kerala, which holds 20 Lok Sabha seats, INC was leading on 15 seats , CPI (M) on one seat and the Indian Union Muslim League led on 2 seats, as per the trend at 12:30 pm.

New Delhi: A close contest between the INC and the BJP is witnessed in the south Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which account for 128 Lok Sabha seats. However, the Congress and its allies together seem to put up a fair performance in the region. BJP swept the polls in Karnataka, which accounts for 28 Lok Sabha seats. As per the trends of 12:15 pm, the party had taken a huge lead in 23 seats, while the INC was leading on only one seat and its ally JDS was also leading on 1 seat. In Kerala, which holds 20 Lok Sabha seats, INC was leading on 15 seats , CPI (M) on one seat and the Indian Union Muslim League led on 2 seats. In Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan’s YSRCP swept the polls and reduced Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP to 1 seat. As per EC data at around 12:30 pm, YSRC was leading on 24 seats while TDP was leading on 1 seat. Of the 17 seats in Telangana, BJP was leading on 4 seats, INC on 3, TRS on 9 and the AIMIM on 1. In Tamil Nadu, which holds 39 Parliamentary seats, elections were held on 38, as the EC had cancelled polls to the Vellore constituency on the ground of excessive use of money power. The DMK was leading on 23 seats, its ally INC was leading on 8 seats, the left parties on 4 seats.
