Case Registered Against Delhi CM Atishi Over 'Flouting Of Model Code Of Conduct'

Delhi Elections: The police have registered a case against Delhi CM Atishi after Monday's Govindpuri incident. Another case was filed against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri's nephew.

The Delhi Police has registered two cases over the ruckus in Govindpuri on Monday night. A case was registered against Atishi for violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Delhi Assembly election.

The second case has been registered against Atishi's supporters because they misbehaved with the policemen and blocked the way of Ramesh Bidhuri's nephews by posing as members of the Election Commission.

The police also filed a case against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri's nephew. In a tweet, DCP South East Delhi said: "FIR No. 106/25 is registered u/s 221/132/121(1)/3(5) BNS at 0S Govindpuri for causing obstruction in discharge of public duty & assault while on duty. Further investigation is in progress."

Soon after the incident, Atishi said: "The Delhi Police illegally took into custody two youths who were reporting and making a video of MCC violations. No action was taken against those making the violation. Hope that the Election Commission intends to have free and fair elections in Delhi."

What Happened In Govindpuri?

Atishi, the AAP candidate from Kalkaji seat, alleged that relatives of BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri violated the Model Code of Conduct ahead of Delhi elections. Atishi reached the police station at 2 AM with her complaint. "The Delhi Police took away people who were making a video of the incident. They were beaten up," she alleged.

She also accused the SHO of Govindpuri police station of thrashing the AAP members. After Atishi's complaint, the Delhi Police released the video."

The Delhi Police said AAP candidate from Kalkaji (AC-51) [Atishi] with 50-70 people and 10 vehicles was found at Fateh Singh Marg. Police instructed them to vacate due to the Model Code of Conduct. To this Atishi replied, "Ramesh Bidhuriji's family members are openly violating the code of conduct. No action is being taken against them. I filed a complaint and called the police and the Election Commission, and they filed a case against me! Rajiv Kumarji, How much will you ruin the electoral process."

Notably, the Delhi Elections will be the last polls managed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar before his retirement.

Kejriwal On Govindpuri Violence

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener, Arvind Kejriwal said: "The Election Commission filed a police case against the Delhi CM after she complained about the open hooliganism. Now, this is the official stand of Delhi Police and Election Commission — to indulge in hooliganism against the Aam Aadmi Party, provide protection to the hooliganism of the BJP, and distribute liquor, money and goods."

"If anyone stops them from doing this “work”, a case will be filed against him for obstructing the “work” of the police and the Election Commission," he said.

BJP On Govindpuri Incident

The BJP mounted a sharp attack on Atishi over the Govindpuri incident. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya said: "Delhi CM Atishi Marlena’s supporter slapped a Delhi cop after police stopped 60 AAP workers, who allegedly arrived in Kalkaji from outside. Something she was accusing the BJP candidate of last night. The incident was recorded on camera. Atishi has been booked for violating the code of conduct."

Initially, Atishi said the accused Manish Bidhuri was Ramesh Bidhuri's son. However, Ramesh Bidhuri later clarified: "I have two sons, the elder one is an advocate in Delhi High Court. And the younger one is a mechanical engineer who is the vice-president of a company abroad and is currently there. Do not lose patience over the fear of defeat and have faith in democracy."
