Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Counting Underway Amid Tight Security

The counting of votes for Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies began on Saturday under a strict security setup at 19 locations across the national capital. Delhi, which has 1.55 crore eligible voters, recorded a 60.54% voter turnout in the February 5 election. A total of 94.51 lakh people cast their votes, comprising 50.42 lakh men, 44.08 lakh women, and 403 third-gender voters, according to the Election Commission of India.

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer, Alice Vaz, confirmed that 5,000 personnel—including counting supervisors, assistants, micro-observers, and support staff—had been deployed for the process. A three-tier security arrangement has been put in place, with 10,000 police personnel, including two companies of paramilitary forces at each counting centre.

Key Voting Trends & Exit Polls Predictions

  • The highest voter turnout was recorded in Mustafabad (69.01%), while Mehrauli (53.02%) saw the lowest.
  • Among districts, northeast Delhi registered the highest turnout at 66.25%, whereas the southeast district had the lowest at 56.40%.
  • The overall turnout was lower than the 62.59% recorded in 2020 but higher than the 56% witnessed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
  • Several exit polls have predicted a BJP victory, while some forecast a close contest between BJP and AAP. Two exit polls, however, have projected AAP retaining power.
