'Corrupt' Modi authorised horse-trading in Karnataka, alleges Rahul Gandhi

After BS Yeddyurappa resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister ahead of the crucial floor test, Congress President on Saturday slammed the BJP for "disrespecting the mandate of the people of the state".

NEW DELHI: After BS Yeddyurappa resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister ahead of the crucial floor test, Congress President on Saturday slammed the BJP for "disrespecting the mandate of the people of the state". "Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about (acting against) corruption but the fact is he himself is corruption. He gave authorised horse-trading in Karnataka," Rahul said. "The BJP tried to purchase the MLAs directly from Delhi. PM Modi saying he is fighting corruption is a blatant lie. 'He is corruption'. Today it has been proved that the country's institutions are bigger which murder accused Amit Shah should realise," he added. Rahul said Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah do not respect any institution. "The prime minister is not bigger than people of India, the Supreme Court, the legislators of the Vidhan Sabha. I doubt he will understand that since he has always been taught by the RSS to disrespect all institutions," he said. Apparently falling short of a simple majority, Yeddyurappa, who was sworn in as the chief minister the day before yesterday, announced on the floor of the House that he would not face confidence vote and that he was going to resign. The BJP had emerged as the single largest party in the state assembly polls, winning 104 seats. The Congress and the JD(S) won 78 and 37 seats respectively and announced a post-poll alliance as they staked claim to form government. 'Operation Lotus' refers to the BJP's move during Yeddyurappa's previous tenure as the chief minister to make MLAs of other parties resign and contest the elections and win again as the candidate of the saffron party.
