Background
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to chair Union Cabinet meet on Wednesday. The cabinet meeting comes amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and evacuations of Indian citizens via neighbouring countries. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday, more than 17,400 Indians have been brought back under 'Operation Ganga' since special flights began on February 22 this year.
The number of Indians airlifted by 73 special civilian flights have gone up to 15,206.
Ahead of the counting of votes in Uttarakhand, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Tuesday deployed senior Congress leaders in 13 districts of the state in order to coordinate with the party candidates. The Congress party has sent senior leaders including party MPs, AICC office-bearers, and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
The other leaders include Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, AICC Tripura in-charge Dr Ajoy Kumar, AICC secretary Szarita Liatphlang, National Spokesperson Prof Gaurav Vallabh, Jeetu Patwari, MB Patil, Jharkhand Health Minister Bana Gupta, AICC Uttarakhand in-charge Devender Yadav, Co-incharge Deepika Pandey Singh and AICC observer Mohan Prakash who have reached Dehradun.
CM Baghel is expected to reach Dehradun on March 10. These leaders will be coordinating with the party candidates. After the results are announced, the newly elected MLAs will reach Dehradun to decide a future course of action with the senior leaders.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday targeted Akhilesh Yadav after the Samajwadi Party president claimed that a truck carrying EVMs was "intercepted" in Varanasi and accused the ruling BJP of attempting to "steal" votes.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Maurya said, "Instead of welcoming fair and peaceful elections, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav due to fear of defeat is preparing a press note, which will be released to the media after the defeat (in the polls). The senior leaders of the SP-alliance have lost the elections, and they should stop this gimmick before the counting of votes."
"The statement of 'kraanti' (revolution) by Akhilesh Yadav, who is a symbol of dynast ('pariwarvad'), is laughable. Only the BJP can save democracy from the so-called dynasts. Democracy has survived and will survive, SP and hooliganism will not survive," Maurya said in another tweet.
