Assembly Elections 2024 Results Live Updates: Hello and welcome to this space brought to you by ABP Live. Please follow this page for all the updates coming straight from the political landscape of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. The results of the elections to the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh and 32-member Sikkim State Assemblies are scheduled to be declared on June 2, two days ahead of the Lok Sabha poll outcomes.

In Sikkim, the contest is expected to be close between the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and the Sikking Democratic Front (SDF). The SDF received a boost after footballer Bhaichung Bhutia's Hamro Sikkim Party merged with it in November 2023.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held an advantage with 10 seats already secured. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, and eight others won their seats uncontested, continuing a trend since 2014, when 11 Congress candidates had a similar victory.

"We will win most of the remaining 50 seats comfortably," Khandu stated ahead of the counting day. His confidence was based on the inability of most parties to field candidates against the BJP.

The National People's Party (NPP), a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, contested 20 seats, the highest number after the BJP. The Congress, struggling for relevance in the State, contested 19 seats. Other parties included the Nationalist Congress Party with 14 candidates, the regional People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) with 11, the new Arunachal Democratic Party with four, and the Lok Janshakti Party with one.

The NFP, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conard K. Sangma, opted not to contest the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh. In return, the BJP refrained from contesting the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya. However, the two parties did not form an alliance for the Assembly polls, which is common among northeastern allies.

In the 2019 Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP won 41 seats. The Janata Dal (United) secured seven, the NPP five, Congress four, and the PPA one, while two Independents also won. All except one Congress MLA, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, joined the BJP.

Close Contest In Sikkim

The Sikkim Assembly election was expected to be as close as the 2019, when Prem Singh Tamang-led SKM won 17 seats, ending Pawan Kumar Chamling's long-standing SDF government.

By December 2019, the SKM's strength in the Assembly had increased to 19, with Chamling was the only remaining SDF legislator, with 10 of his MLAs joining the BJP. BJP candidates subsequently won two bypolls, bringing the party's tally to 12.

The BJP had supported the SDF without joining the government, but the two parties ended their alliance ahead of the polls.
