Assembly Elections 2022: Arvind Kejriwal To Pramod Sawant, How Leaders Reacted To Poll Results

Assembly Elections 2022: Rahul Gandhi tweeted and congratulated the winners, and wrote that we accept the decision of the people.

New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks set to win in assembly elections in four states:- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. Whereas, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that governs the national capital territory of Delhi has registered a landslide victory in the northern state of Punjab.

Here's how leaders reacted to the assembly election results:-

Arvind Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal described the party’s win as a “big revolution” and asked people to join his party and contribute to AAP’s effort to build a “new India”.

AAP has won 83 seats and is leading on 9 more in a 117-seat assembly.

“This is such a big mandate. It is scary. People have trusted us. We have to fulfil their aspirations. We should not be arrogant. They (political parties) will throw brickbats, but don’t get bothered by it. We have to make India the best,” he said as he congratulated AAP’s presumptive chief minister Bhagwant Mann.

“The election result of Punjab today is a big revolution. Big people in politics have been dislodged today. Sukhbir Singh Badal lost. Captain Amarinder Sigh lost, Channi lost, Prakash Singh Badal lost, Navjot Singh Sidhu lost and Majithia too lost,” Kejriwal said.

Bhagwant Mann

In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party has registered a big win, in all the big seats, the party candidates have won with a big margin. After these results, there is an atmosphere of celebration among AAP workers. Thousands of supporters reached outside the house of the party's CM candidate Bhagwant Mann. He has announced that government offices will not have the photo of the Chief Minister as is the custom.

"The oath-taking ceremony will not be held at Raj Bhawan, but at Khatkarkalan. The date will be announced later," he said in his victory speech in Dhuri, where he won by over 58,000 votes.

"No government office will carry a picture of Chief Minister, instead there will be pictures of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar," Mr Mann announced.

"Bade (Parkash Singh) Badal Sahib has lost, Sukhbir (Badal) has lost from Jalalabad, Captain has lost from Patiala, Sidhu and Majithia are also losing, (Charanjit Singh) Channi has lost on both the seats," the AAP leader said.

Aparna Yadav

The results of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are now completely clear. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) in a straight contest. The Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government with victory/lead on 262 seats, while the Samajwadi Party seems to be reduced to 135 seats. On this victory of BJP, Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav, who recently joined BJP, was seen celebrating BJP's win.

Aparna Yadav expressed her happiness saying, "Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Isai Sabke Sab Hein Bhaajpayee." This is an answer to all those who divided (the state) on the basis of appeasement politics, caste. We are forming govt with 'Jai Shree Ram' on March 10...; can't get a better government than this," said BJP leader as quoted by news agency ANI.

Rahul Gandhi

The performance of the Congress party was negligible. After the party failed in 5 states, Rahul Gandhi tweeted and congratulated the winners, and wrote that we accept the decision of the people.

"Humbly accept the people's verdict. Best wishes to those who have won the mandate. My gratitude to all Congress workers and volunteers for their hard work and dedication. We will learn from this and keep working for the interests of the people of India," he wrote on Twitter.

Sukhbir Singh Badal

Amid a thumping victory for the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday said that his party accepts the election mandate with humility. Sukhbir has also congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sukhbir, who was the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, tweeted saying, "We whole-heartedly & with total humility accept the mandate given by Punjabis. I am grateful to lakhs of Punjabis who placed their trust in us & to SAD-BSP workers for their selfless toil. We will continue to serve them with humility in the role they have assigned to us".

"As president of @Akali_Dal_, I congratulate @AamAadmiParty, @AAPPunjab & their leader @BhagwantMann on their victory in Punjab poll. I offer them my sincerest good wishes for success and I am sure they will live up to the people’s expectations," he added.

Harish Rawat

Congress leader and former state Chief Minister Harish Singh Rawat on Thursday expressed shock over the Congress party's dismal performance in the Uttarakhand elections. He said that the results are surprising as he failed to understand how BJP managed to get such a positive public mandate after such 'massive inflation'.

Speaking to the reporters, Rawat said," Our efforts were a little less to win over the public of Uttarakhand. We were sure that people will vote for a change, there must've been a shortage in our efforts, I accept it & take responsibility for the defeat.

"Our campaign strategy was insufficient & I accept it as chairman of Complaint Committee. People worked very well & I'd like to thank them. I couldn't win people's trust but I'd like to congratulate my daughter & all the winning candidates who won.

"For me, the results are very surprising. I cannot understand that after such massive inflation, if this was the public's mandate, what is the definition of public welfare & social justice?... I can't understand people saying 'BJP zindabaad' after this."

Pushkar Singh Dhami

In Uttarakhand, the chief ministerial candidates of all the three parties BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party could not win their assembly elections. BJP leader and state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has lost the election from the Khatima Assembly constituency by a margin of 6,579 votes.

"BJP is forming govt with 2/3 majority. New records are being made since PM Modi became PM. I am thankful to party and central leadership for giving an opportunity to a person like me of a humble background," he said.

Pramod Sawant

The chief minister of Goa Pramod Sawant has won from Goa's Sanquelim assembly seat as he defeated Congress leader Dharmesh Saglani by a margin of 650 votes.

At a press conference, Sawant said, "I want to thank the people of Goa. We had asked for 22 but we were just a little short. We want to thank PM Modi. Credit to all the leaders as well who had come here."

He added, "We were here for 10 years. Many said there is anti incumbency but we were confident that we will win on pro development work. Without any alliance we have got 20 seats. Vote share is 34.3 per cent so we have increased our base as well."

"Narendra Modi’s mission of Aatmanirbhar has actualized in Goa. I want to thank the people of Goa. We lost 3 seats by very low margins. This win is because of Narendra Modi and his vision and also JP Nadda and others. After 10 years, we have still managed to form the government," he added.
