Bhagwant Mann To Take Oath As Punjab CM On March 16, Invites Kejriwal For Swearing-In Ceremony

The announcement comes after Mann met AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the national capital today.

New Delhi: A day after sweeping the Assembly Election with almost a three-fourth majority, Aam Aadmi Party's Punjab Chief Minister-elect Bhagwant Mann will take oath as the new CM of border state on March 16 (Wednesday).

The announcement comes after Mann met AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the national capital today.

According to reports, Mann has also invited Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the swearing-in ceremony. He will hold a roadshow in Punjab's Amritsar on March 13 along with Kejriwal.

AAP created history in Punjab by routing ruling Congress and blowing other parties to smithereens in the 2022 Assembly elections. The Delhi-based party won as many as 92 of the 117 assembly seats. Mann won from the Dhuri seat by a huge margin of 58,206 votes.

Earlier in the day, Mann meet Kejriwal at his residence for the first time after the assembly election results were declared on Thursday. During the meeting, Mann extended an invitation to Kejriwal to attend both the events.

"My younger brother Bhagwant Mann will take oath as the chief minister of Punjab. Today he came to my house to extend invitation for the oath-taking ceremony. I am sure that as a chief minister, Bhagwant will fulfil every expectation of the people of Punjab," Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. He also shared a picture of the meeting.

Soon after trends were clear in Punjab on Thursday afternoon, Mann has said the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary Bhagat Singh in Nawanshahr district.

Rising from the ashes like the phoenix, AAP managed to crush several traditional players that ruled the border state of Punjab for decades.

The ruling Congress, which won 77 seats in 2017, was reduced to 18 seats with most of its big leaders including CM Charanjit Channi and state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu faced humiliating defeat from their respective strongholds.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its previous ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) failed in securing even a double-digit tally.

The BJP, which had won three seats in the 2017 when it had contested in alliance with the SAD, secured only two seats, while SAD won four seats.
