Thanjavur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Parasuraman.K from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 144119 votes. The polling / voting in Thanjavur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between All India Trinamool Congress#s N. R. Natarajan and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s SS Palanimanickam

Thanjavur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Out of the 12 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Thanjavur, 10 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Parasuraman.K of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Baalu.T.R by a margin of 144119 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, DMK candidate Palanimanickam. S. S. attained 400986 votes and ADMK's Thangamuthu. K bagged 281838 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate with a difference of 48204 votes. Here, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Palanimanickam, S.S. attained 324344 votes and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate Ganesan, L. bagged 276140 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, DMK candidate Palanimanickam S.S attained 390010 votes and INC's Thulasiah Vandayar K bagged 189582 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Thulasiah Vandayar K. attained 381932 votes and DMK's Palanimanickam S. bagged 219862 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate by a margin of 97147 votes INC candidate Singravadivel, S had got 371967 while DMK got Palanimanickam, S votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate by a margin of 89321 votes INC candidate Singaravadivel had got 306351 while DMK got Palanimanickam S. votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated ADK candidate with a difference of 44539 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Singaravadivel S. attained 268382 votes and ADK candidate Thangamuthu K. bagged 223843 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, ADK candidate had defeated DMK candidate by a margin of 97743 votes ADK candidate Somasundaram S.D. had got 289059 while DMK got Ganesan L. votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, DMK candidate S. D. Somasundaram attained 268980 votes and NCO's R. Krishnasamy Gopalar bagged 168972 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 22574 votes. Here, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader D.S. Gopalar attained 225414 votes and INC candidate R. Venkataraman bagged 202840 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 28073 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Vairava Thevar attained 143185 votes and PSP candidate Vallatharasu bagged 115112 votes
