Background

Mandya: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, C.S.Puttaraju from Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) won the elections by a margin of 5518 votes. The polling / voting in Mandya constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party Supported#s Sumalatha Ambareesh and Janata Dal (Secular)#s Nikhil Gowda

Mandya 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 17 out of the 28 parliamentary seat with 43 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 9 seats with a 40.8 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 71.45% Lok Sabha percent with 72.09% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 70.79% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6021 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 16 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mandya, 14 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of C.S.Puttaraju of the Janata Dal (Secular) as he defeated Ramya by a margin of 5518 votes.

  • 2009 Lok Sabha Elections: In 15th Lok Sabha election, Janata Dal (Secular) candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 23500 votes. Here, Janata Dal (Secular) leader N. Chaluvaraya Swamy attained 384443 votes and Indian National Congress candidate M H Ambareesh bagged 360943 votes
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Janata Dal (Secular) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Ambareesh M. H. attained 411116 votes and JD(S)'s Dr. S Ramegowda bagged 286678 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Janata Dal (Secular) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Amaranatha .M.H attained 418110 votes and JD(S)'s Krishna bagged 265930 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Ambareesh attained 431439 votes and INC's G.Made Gowda bagged 250916 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 33386 votes. Here, JD leader Krishna attained 335852 votes and Indian National Congress candidate G Madegowda bagged 302466 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 95347 votes INC candidate G. Madegowda had got 259500 while BJP got D. Ramalingaiah votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP(JP) candidate by a margin of 74889 votes INC candidate G.Made Gowda had got 337024 while JNP(JP) got H.L.Nage Gowda votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, JNP candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JNP candidate K. V. Shankaragowda attained 319176 votes and INC's S. M. Krishna bagged 198780 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate S.M. Krishna attained 223675 votes and JNP's C. Bandegowda bagged 108333 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and BLD here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his BLD counterpart with a difference of 5321 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate S. M. Krishna attained 272174 votes and NCO's M. D. Chowdaiah bagged 110012 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated IND candidate with a difference of 46484 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader M. K. Shivananjappa attained 192706 votes and IND candidate J. Devaiah bagged 146222 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated IND candidate by a margin of 74323 votes INC candidate M. K. Shivananjappa had got 148523 while IND got M. C. Linge Gowda votes.
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated PSP candidate by a margin of 52671 votes INC candidate M. K. Shivananjappa had got 142066 while PSP got M. C. Linge Gowda votes.
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate defeated KMPP candidate with a difference of 39117 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader M. K. Sivananjappa attained 125566 votes and KMPP candidate M. C. Lingegowda bagged 86449 votes
