Background

Maharajganj: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Pankaj from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 240458 votes. The polling / voting in Maharajganj constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Pankaj Choudhary and Congress Party#s Supriya Shrinate

Maharajganj 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

Out of the 23 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Maharajganj, 20 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Pankaj of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Kashi Nath Shukla by a margin of 240458 votes.

Here, Janata Dal (United) leader Prabhunath Singh attained 283506 votes and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Jitendra Swami bagged 237041 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Janata Dal (United) candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD(U) candidate Prabhunath Singh attained 398475 votes and INC's Mahachandra Prasad Singh bagged 294412 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, SAP candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, SAP candidate Prabhunath Singh attained 360265 votes and INC's Mahachandra Prasad Singh bagged 154712 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, SAP candidate defated GD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, SAP candidate Ram Bahadur Singh attained 325577 votes and GD's Girija Devi bagged 172723 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated JP candidate with a difference of 24335 votes. Here, JD leader Girija Devi (W) attained 239700 votes and JP candidate Ram Bahadur Singh bagged 215365 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Chanrasbekhar attained 382488 votes and INC's Krishna Pratap bagged 165170 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Krishnapratap Singh attained 255462 votes and JNP's Ram Deo Singh bagged 121558 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JNP candidate with a difference of 30932 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Krishna Pratap Singh attained 144744 votes and JNP candidate Ramdeo Singh bagged 113812 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Ram Deo Singh attained 345781 votes and INC's Daroga Prasad Ro bagged 93883 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between SSP and CPI here SSP candidate defeated his CPI counterpart with a difference of 1008 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPI candidate with a difference of 17244 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader M. P. Singh attained 96212 votes and CPI candidate I. Sinha bagged 78968 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 13527 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Krishnakanta Singh attained 73670 votes and PSP candidate Yamuna Prasad Singh bagged 60143 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 20945 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Mahendra Nath Singh attained 71718 votes and PSP candidate Tara Rani bagged 50773 votes
