The polling / voting in Basirhat constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Sayantan Basu and All India Trinamool Congress#s Nusrat Jahan

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defated WBTC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPI candidate Ajay Chakraborty attained 425442 votes and WBTC's Dr Sudipto Roy bagged 305366 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 86016 votes CPI candidate Ajay Chakraborty had got 453126 while INC got Dilip Majumder votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 71642 votes CPI candidate Monoranjan Sur had got 357774 while INC got Sardar Amjad Ali votes.

पाकिस्तान ने वर्ल्ड कप के अपने दूसरे मैच में इंग्लैंड को 14 रन से हराकर शानदार वापसी की है. 349 रन के लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी इंग्लैंड की टीम रूट-बटलर के शतक के बावजूद 50 ओवर में 334 रन बना पाई और उसे 14 रन से हार का सामना करना पड़ा. पाकिस्तान के लिए रियाज ने 3 विकेट लिए.
