West Bengal MBBS Admission: Number of Seats Raised To 4,000 In Medical Colleges
West Bengal MBBS Admission: The first batch of MBBS in Purulia Government MCH will be initiated with 100 seats and an additional 150 MBBS seats in Gouri Devi Medical College.
In a move that will bring cheer for medical aspirants, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has increased the number of seats in the MBBS course to 4,000 in the state with the addition of 250 seats in two medical colleges. The chief minister has earlier emphasised on the need to upgrade the number of medical seats in the state. She took to micro blogging site Twitter to share the information with students about the increase in the number of MBBS seats. As per the tweet, the first MBBS batch in Purulia Government MCH will be initiated with 100 seats and an additional 150 MBBS seats in Gouri Devi Medical College.
"I am pleased to announce that we now have 4,000 MBBS seats for Bengal's vibrant medical students with the initiation of the first MBBS batch in Purulia Govt MCH consisting of 100 seats & the addition of 150 MBBS seats in Gouri Devi Medical College," Banerjee said on Twitter.
In fact in 2019, minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya had informed the assembly that the number of MBBS seats in West Bengal was 1,355 when the Trinamool Congress government came to power in the state in 2011, as per PTI report.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the result of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 on October 16. This year, Shoyeb Aftab from Odisha created history by topping the entrance exams with a percent score of 720 marks.
Shoyeb has not just created a record of scoring 100 per cent, but has also become the first student from Odisha to top the NEET examination. It is also being said that Shoyeb is now aiming to get admission to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in the undergraduate programme.
