UP teachers' recruitment case: The Lucknow Bench of the High Court took serious note of the alleged irregularities and issued the directive Monday. An inquiry is being conducted in the matter by a committee constituted by the state government.

UP teachers' recruitment case: Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to submit before it on September 20 the progress report of an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the appointment process of 68,500 assistant basic education teachers in the state. Taking a serious note of the alleged irregularities, the Lucknow Bench of the High Court issued the directive Monday. An inquiry is being conducted in the matter by a committee constituted by the state government. The bench of Justice Irshad Ali also sought the details of the action, if any, taken against erring officers. The court also said that all appointments would be subject to its further orders to be passed on the petition filed by a candidate Sonika Devi. The petitioner has demanded a revaluation of her answer sheet. Earlier, Yogi Aditynath-led government has instituted a high-level committee to investigate the alleged irregularities in the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination 2018 (ATRE 2018). The ATRE was conducted to fill 68,500 vacant posts of teachers in government primary schools. More than one lakh aspirants had appeared in the exam, whose results were declared in August. However, only 41,556 could clear it. Also Read | Uttar Pradesh teacher recruitment scam According to the report by HT, the scam blew up in the third week of August when a candidate filed in the writ petition in the Allahabad high court claiming that the answer sheet was replaced. The aspirants have alleged corruption in the recruitment process and have started protesting against the irregularities. Prima facie also suggests that there are serious irregularities in evaluation and declaration of results. A government spokesperson said in a statement that more investigation is needed so that exemplary punishment can be given to the guilty. (With inputs from PTI)
