UPSC Result 2022: UP's Suraj Tiwari, Who Lost His Legs & Right Arm, Clears Exam. Parents Laud Him As 'Brave'

UPSC Civil Services Result 2022: Suraj Tiwari and Akhila B S are among candidates who successfully cleared the exam. What makes them an inspiration for other aspirants is that they secured ranks despite their challenging physical constraints.

The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) declared the final results of the examination held in 2022 on Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh's Suraj Tiwari and Kerala's Akhila B S are among the candidates who successfully cleared the exam, but what makes them an inspiration for other aspirants is that they secured ranks despite having challenging physical constraints. Suraj Tiwari from Mainpuri lost both his legs as well as his right arm and two fingers of his left hand in a train accident at Ghaziabad’s Dadri in 2017. Akhila B S from Thiruvananthapuram lost her right arm in a bus accident at the age of five.

Expressing their happiness, Suraj Tiwari's parents called him "brave" and said they were proud of their son. "I am very happy today, my son has made me proud. He is very brave. His three fingers are enough to succeed," Suraj Tiwari's father Ramesh Kumar Tiwari said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

His mother Asha Devi Tiwari was quoted saying, "My son is very brave. Suraj never gave up and worked harder to succeed in his life. He always asks his younger siblings to do hard work."

As per inputs, Suraj cleared the coveted exam on his first attempt and scored the 917th rank

As for Akhila BS, she said she will reappear for the exam next year to improve her rank. "I am happy. I give my first attempt in 2020. This is the first time I am making it to the list. My aim is to become an IAS officer and with this rank (760), I will not be able to get that service. I will prepare for the upcoming exam," she told ANI.

As per a report by Republic, Akhila is the daughter of a former headmaster at Cotton Hill Government Girls High School, Thiruvananthapuram. She lost her right arm in a bus accident that happened on September 11, 2000.

A total of 933 candidates have been recommended by the UPSC for different services. Among the top five ranks, the top four positions are held by girls and there is only one boy in the top five rank-holders.

Garima Lohia, who secured AIR 2 in the prestigious examination, accomplished the feat without the assistance of any coaching. She had lost her father four years back but remained resolute to clear the examination.
