Jaipur Literature Festival Celebrates Literature, Art And Music

The event proceeded with inaugural addresses by writer and academic Harish Trivedi and UN Resident Coordinator for India Shombi Sharp.

New Delhi: The 15th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival celebrated literature, art and music at its new home.

The morning music led the way to the inaugural session with a scintillating performance of ‘Raag Miya Ki Todi’ by Ujwal Nagar, maestro of Hindustani classical music and lead classical singer of the Indian fusion band ‘Advaita’.

The event proceeded with inaugural addresses by writer and academic Harish Trivedi and UN Resident Coordinator for India Shombi Sharp.

Besides, the festival directors and the festival producer also spoke on the occasion.

Festival Producer and Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, Sanjoy K. Roy, welcomed all to the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival.

“Last year, we were able to pivot online and through our digital series JLF Brave New World, JLF WORDS ARE BRIDGES, and the 2021 Jaipur Literature Festival, which was entirely digital – reached over 27.5 million people across the world,” Roy said.

“It's the first year that we have taken the Festival hybrid; we started on the 5th of March and will be on till the 14th of March. So, it's a ten-day programme of incredible riches!” he added.

Roy further said it's not just new additions to the festival this year but a new home too.

“We are extremely delighted to be celebrating the 15th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival at Hotel Clarks, Amer,” he added.

Festival co-director, Namita Gokhale, while addressing the audience said: “Though I am deeply honoured to be receiving the Sahitya Akademi Award, yet I am here for the Festival in Jaipur and not in Delhi to receive it because my award is you and this prestigious Festival.”

“Coming back again to the Festival makes me emotional as I remember previous editions of the literary extravaganza featuring various writers and their stories,” she added.

Described as the ‘greatest literary show on earth’, the Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas.

Every year, the festival brings together a diverse mix of the world’s greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders and entertainers on one stage to champion the freedom to express and engage in thoughtful debate and dialogue.

The Jaipur Literature Festival is a flagship event of Teamwork Arts, which produces it along with over 25 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across more than 40 cities globally.
