Delhi University Teachers Unite Against Administration Over Appointment Of Assistant Professors

Delhi University: Delhi University teachers have come together regarding Assistant Professors Appointments.

Delhi University News: The new VC (Vice-chancellor) of Delhi University is facing stiff opposition from teachers' organisations over Assistant Professors's Appointments. Teachers' organisation Duta (DUTA) on Friday declared a strike at Delhi University. Duta has warned the Delhi University administration against ignoring 4,000 ad hoc teachers in the appointment process.

The Executive Council of the University is scheduled to meet at Delhi University today. The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has also raised its objection to some of the agenda provisions laid down for the meeting. These new amendments have been made by the University of Delhi for the recruitment process of Assistant Professors. Teachers have opposed the provision saying it will render 4,000 teachers working in Delhi University ad hoc and temporary teachers unemployed. DTF Secretary Professor Abha Dev Habib has appealed to teachers to come in large numbers for demonstrations outside the VC office.

The DTF has called upon teachers to join the strike and demonstration in large numbers on Friday to send a strong message to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor that DU teachers want absorption and nothing less. Professor Abha Dev Habib said it was shocking that at its first meeting of the Executive Council, an agenda item has been brought up which is against the discussion record of December 5. Which allowed all serving ad hoc teachers to appear for interviews.

Now giving 100 per cent weightage to the selection committee is a real threat to the displacement of ad hoc teachers. What about the thousands of ad hoc teachers who have given their best year in the service of the university in difficult circumstances? So the VC should be told that we will not tolerate violation of the record of discussion of December 5. Agenda 5.1 should be withdrawn and we will implement the One Time UGC Regulation for absorption of temporary and ad hoc teachers.

The Delhi Teachers Association has submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University. The memorandum demands Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh to expedite regularization, adjustment, stabilization of ad hoc teachers in various colleges affiliated to Delhi University who have been waiting for years to become permanent.
