Republic Day 2024: Delhi Police Issues Traffic Advisory. Check Restricted Routes, Parking Facilities
While Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to take public transport during the Republic Day celebrations, they have given an extensive advisory on traffic and parking arrangements.
Republic Day 2024 Traffic Advisory: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory for traffic arrangements and restrictions for the smooth sailing of the grand parade. While the parade itself is set to begin at 10:30 AM, there are related programmes at the National War Memorial, India Gate, will start at 9:30 AM. People have been advised to make maximum use of public transport to reach Kartavya Path to watch the parade.
Traffic Arrangements & Restrictions
Extensive arrangements and restrictions have been planned along the parade route, which is through Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, the Subhas Chandra Bose roundabout, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhas Marg and finally the Red Fort.

Traffic movement has not been permitted on the Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from Wednesday, 6 PM onwards, this restriction is in place till the parade is over.
No cross-traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road from 10 PM on Wednesday till the end of the parade.
The C-Hexagon-India Gate has been closed for traffic from 9:15 AM on Thursday till the parade crosses Tilak Marg. From 10:30 AM on Thursday, traffic on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhas Marg will not be allowed. Cross-traffic will only be allowed depending on the movement of the parade.
According to the advisory, heavy transport/light goods vehicles will not be permitted to enter Delhi from other states from 11 PM on Thursday till the parade is over. These vehicles will only be allowed to run between ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT-Kashmere Gate on the Ring Road from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Friday.
Alternative Routes:
As per the advisory, commuters can take the route from Madarsa, Lodhi Road T-point via Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road-Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg and Shankar Road to reach Mandir Marg.
Commuters travelling to New Delhi railway station from south Delhi can pass through Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg, Panchkuian Road, the Connaught Place Outer Circle and Chelmsford Road for the Paharganj side and Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg for the Ajmeri Gate side.
From east Delhi, they can take Boulevard Road via the ISBT bridge, the Rani Jhansi flyover, the Jhandewalan roundabout, DB Gupta Road, Sheela Cinema Road and the Paharganj Bridge.
To travel to Old Delhi railway station from south Delhi, the advisory urged people to take the Ring Road, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Chowk Yamuna Bazar, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chhatta Rail and the Kauria Bridge.
Similarly, Inter-state buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium will have to take National Highway-24, the Ring Road and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from National Highway-24 will take a right turn on Road No 56 and terminate at ISBT-Anand Vihar.
Buses for Wazirabad Bridge from Ghaziabad will be diverted at Mohan Nagar towards Bhopra Chungi.
Parking For Kartavya Path Parade Visitors
Delhi Traffic Police informed on Wednesday that VIPs, including senior bureaucrats and politicians, would be allowed to alight near their seating area this time on Republic Day, following which the vehicle will be sent to its designated parking spot.

According to a senior police officer, this special arrangement has been made due to limited parking space.
According to the advisory, parking spots 3 and 4 behind Vigyan Bhawan have a capacity of 300 vehicles, once it is filled visitors are required to alight only on Maulana Azad Road near Vigyan Bhawan. Afterwhich, their vehicles will be accommodated at parking spots 1 and 2 (behind Nirman Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan), 2A (inside Nirman Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan), 5 (behind Zabta Masjid), 6 (Kota House Jam Nagar House and Jaisalmer House), 7 (Vanijya Bhawan).
Parking Restrictions On Republic Day
People are advised not to station their vehicles in the parking lots at New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Nizamuddin Railway Station as well as Anand Vihar Railway Station between 8 PM on January 25 till 12 Noon on January 26.
Commuters are advised to take public transportation, however, vehicles can pick or drop passengers outside the railway station.
Bharat Parv Traffic Advisory
Meanwhile, the Traffic Police had issued an advisory on Tuesday for 'Bharat Parv', which is scheduled to be held at Red Fort between January 23 and January 31. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, several food courts and handicraft stalls have been set up at 15 August Park and Madhav Das Park for the general public.
Traffic has been diverted from Chatta Rail Crossing, Subhas Park T-point, Shanti Van Chowk and Delhi Gate, to avoid congestion. Traffic restrictions or regulation or diversion could be imposed on Netaji Subhas Marg from Chatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate and Nishad Raj Marg from Shanti Van crossing to the Subhas Park T-point during the period of the festival.
As per the advisory, the general public have been advised to avoid the roads and stretches where there are diversions and the area of the event. Meanwhile, people commuting to New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations and the ISBT should plan their journey accordingly to accommodate possible delays.
Additionally, people have been advised to use public transport facilities, especially the Delhi Metro, to reach the venue. Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Kashmere Gate are the nearest metro stations that can be used to reach the Red Fort. During the period of the event, people have been urged to park vehicles at designated lots and avoid roadside parking as it hinders the normal traffic flow.
