Drunk Robbers On Stabbing Spree In Delhi Kill One, Injure Two

Three robbers attacked and killed a 32-year-old man Gurfan in northeast Delhi's Welcome area and injured two others with knives.

Three drunk robbers attacked and killed a 32-year-old man Gurfan in northeast Delhi's Welcome area, police said on Saturday. The robbers identified as Kapil Chaudhary (25), Sohail (22) were armed with knives and they also attacked two others, leaving them injured in the same area. One of the injured was later identified as a 25-year-old Sher Mohammad of Janta Mazdoor Colony in Welcome, who was stabbed in his abdomen, said Northeast Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey. He managed to save himself by hiding inside a house, reported news agency PTI. Notably, the third victim identified as 22-year-old Sharik was also stabbed in his neck but he ran away to save himself.

The police said they received three calls pertaining to incidents of stabbing at the Welcome police station between 11.30 pm on Friday and 1.02 am on Saturday. Gurfan, who died after being severely injured, was stabbed in his back and his cell phone was also taken away by the assailants. The area DCP Joy Tirkey said a call about his stabbing came at around 12.20 am.

The police have so far arrested two of the robbers Kapil Chaudhary and Sohail and all efforts are underway to nab the third accused Sameer, reported PTI. Police said Sameer was found engaged in several criminal activities in the past also and was arrested for robbery under provisions of the Arms Act in 2022.

Other assailants Chaudhary also has past criminal records and was arrested in 2021 for an attempt to murder and in 2022 for a stabbing incident. He was released from jail just three months ago. Commenting further on the matter, DCP Joy Tirkey said police recovered the robbed mobile phone and a blood-stained knife from his possession.

Police further said all of them were consuming alcohol together when they hatched a plan to rob and attack some people. The three were also carrying knives that they had purchased from the Ballimaran area, reported PTI. The Police have registered a case under several sections such as 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 392 (punishment for robbery), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
