Minimum Temperature In Delhi Dips To 21 Degrees Celsius, Light Rain Expected Today

Delhi Weather Today: After rain on Thursday evening, the minimum temperature dipped to 21.6 degrees Celsius and light rain is expected today as well.

The national capital is likely to see light rain on Friday again after it brought some respite from the scorching heat the previous day. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The MeT department further said the sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day and the maximum temperature is likely to settle at 36 degrees Celsius. 

On Thursday, several parts of Delhi saw light to moderate rainfall, bringing some respite from the persistent heatwave conditions in the city. 

However, two flights had to be diverted to Jaipur from Delhi airport due to weather conditions, according to airport officials. Safdarjung recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall and Palam 3.8 mm. 

The weather department has said skies are likely to remain partly cloudy for the next few days. Meteorologist from Skymet Weather Services Mahesh Palawat on Thursday said that Greater Noida and parts of Gurugram are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms along with moderate wind. 

On Thursday, the maximum temperature settled at 36.3 degrees Celsius, one notch below the normal, while the minimum was recorded at 23.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, according to an IMD bulletin.

Heatwave Conditions In West Bengal

Heatwave conditions prevailed in Gangetic West Bengal on Thursday as Kolkata experienced a maximum of 40.6 degrees Celsius temperature, which is five notches above normal, the Meteorological department said.

It also said that the eastern metropolis and neighbouring areas will experience such conditions for the next 24 hours with the mercury level likely to be around 40 deg C.

Temperatures above 40 deg C were recorded across the south and western districts of the state with 41.6 deg C at Barrackpore in North 24-Parganas, 39 deg C at Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas, 42.6 deg C at Kalaikunda in Paschim Medinipur, 43.6 deg C in Birbhum, 43.9 deg C at Panagarh in Paschim Bardhaman.
